Tai Kwun | Touch Gallery - Steven Tang's Solo Exhibition 'The Feast of Joy'

Hong Kong realistic artist Steven Tang (Tang Tsz-chun) will hold his latest solo exhibition, The Feast of Joy, at Touch Gallery Room 202 in Tai Kwun from September 2 to September 25, 2026. The opening reception is scheduled for September 12, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and members of the public are cordially invited to attend. Every attendee at the reception will receive a postcard hand-signed by Steven Tang, allowing them to bring home the culinary memories captured in his paintings and pass this sense of everyday joy to friends.

Working primarily with colored pencils, Tang is renowned for his meticulous, realistic depictions of everyday dining scenes. His works were previously showcased at the Art Central art fair, where they completely sold out. This exhibition continues his delicate observation of local food culture, transforming ordinary dining scenes into works of art through rich, tactile brushwork and pencil strokes.

Reflecting on the exhibition's theme, Tang notes that answering the question "What should I eat today?" may seem ordinary, but life is ultimately built from these fleeting moments. Certain flavors have the power to transport us back to a specific place—be it a bowl of noodles, a piece of candy, a shared meal, or memories of a person, a city, or a time that can never be reclaimed. He observes that while modern society is accustomed to calculating calories, prices, and time, the essential taste of food remains unchanged, along with the pure happiness it brings.

Tang believes that as long as we approach the meal before us with mindfulness, everyday life can become a journey across time and space. Each artwork in The Feast of Joy centers on everyday dishes, inviting viewers to pause and recall a flavor uniquely their own—and the small, certainty of happiness tucked away within every meal.
